This northern suburb of Petra, Siq el-Berid, has come to be known as Little Petra because it is like a miniature version of the main city. Just 8km (5 miles) north of the Wadi Musa town (Petra), seems to have been a largely residential settlement, as relatively few tombs have been discovered, and appears to have been where the wealthy merchants of Petra had their homes. As you emerge into the “town”, the incredible facades is overwhelming, with houses, temples and cisterns hand carved into every exposed rock, with flights of steps in all directions. |
