No Two Are Ever The Same

No Two Are Ever the Same

One of the greatest gifts of creating custom work is this: no two experiences are ever alike.

Back in January 2025, during the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival, a couple stepped into my exhibit booth with purpose. They were immediately drawn to the work, but what stayed with me was their sense of direction. They shared that a large statement wall in their Arizona home needed something special. Over the years, pieces had come and gone, but nothing had fully anchored the space. They were ready to resolve it.

They described their home as architecturally unique, layered with warm wood elements and exposed metal beams. They were light and warm in spirit, yet focused and professional. He communicated their goal clearly:

“It is our goal this season to decide what we are going to do. And if we choose to commission a custom piece, we would want it completed and installed next season — January 2026.”

I smiled and told them they were speaking my language, I like goals.

I thanked them for their directness and for articulating their timeline. Clear vision creates powerful art, and well-considered logistics protect and support that vision from concept to installation.

When I returned to Arizona a month later for my second show of the season, there they were again, same smiles, same enthusiasm. The conversation deepened. By then, I sensed I was in meaningful consideration. I shared that if they truly wanted me to understand the setting they were describing, the architecture, the light, the feeling of the home, they should invite me in during my final March exhibit trip.

They did.

That March home visit was pivotal. Standing before the expansive wall, we discussed tone, texture, color, and intention. They were drawn to the sculptural layers of my work, the dimensional movement, the way light interacts with the surface. We aligned on emerald and various striking greens, accented with copper warmth and subtle touches of blue.

Jewel tones carry authority, and emerald in particular holds a powerful presence, grounded, refined, alive, bringing the outdoors inward. It felt precisely right for their home, especially after witnessing their expansive plant collection lining the dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows that stretched the length of the house, overlooking unobstructed sky, mountain, and desert landscape.

Throughout the creation process, I found myself reflecting on our three meetings over the course of three months. I appreciated their commitment and tenacity. With multiple touchpoints and ongoing dialogue, the work unfolded naturally, grounded in clarity, fueled by inspiration, and supported by confidence.

The result was a Discovery Collection Emerald piece, sculpted, layered, luminous, created specifically for them and their home. Installed in January 2026, it transformed not only the wall, but the rhythm of the room.

Every client is different.

Every home carries its own presence.

Every commission tells its own story.

That’s the beauty of it.

There are never repeats.

Thank you K & S.
