There’s Just Something Special…

JRO ART X Art on Main Street, Old Town La Quinta

There’s Just Something Special, By JRO ART

There’s just something special about Art on Main Street in Old Town La Quinta. Maybe it’s the way the mountain range perfectly frames the village, standing like a quiet guardian over the day. Or maybe it’s the rhythm of the one-day show itself: short, sweet, full of energy, a day that demands effort yet feels effortless, a creative adventure from start to finish. I especially love driving toward the mountains at sunrise, the desert bathed in that beyond-beautiful light, a quiet moment that always sets the tone for the day ahead.

From November through April, on select Saturdays, Old Town La Quinta transforms into a vibrant art village. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a perfect window for conversation, exploration, and connection. Parking is easy, cafés and lunch spots are plentiful, and the specialty shops lining Old Town La Quinta add their own distinct charm. Everything about it feels designed for enjoyment, casual yet elevated, intimate yet alive.

For me, it’s a true favorite. I love welcoming the winter visitors to California who arrive from every corner of the planet, curious, kind, and ready to mingle. I like to think of myself as a bit of an ambassador—of the event, of California itself—sharing the warmth and creative spirit that make our winter days so special. And the locals, a beautiful community that continues to grow, always supporting and celebrating the arts! There’s a true sense of place here. Over the years, familiar faces return each season, transforming the show into something more than an event, it becomes a meaningful gathering.

I usually arrive in town a day or two early, indulging in one of my favorite rituals, watching golfers drift by from the patio. I meet with collectors and arrange home visits for those who’d like to experience the artwork in their own space. It’s also the ideal time to discuss custom commissions, aligning the piece with the home and the energy it’s meant to live within. Art deliveries typically happen after the show on Saturday or Sunday morning.

I think that’s part of the show’s allure, its brevity. Because it’s just one day, people show up with enthusiasm, ready to discover something that brightens their lives and adds meaning to their surroundings. There’s a real sense of presence, a collective appreciation.

As the afternoon light softens and the mountains glow, the air hums with that perfect mix of gratitude and exhaustion that comes from a day well spent. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t need forever, just a moment that’s honest, full of spirit, and felt.

Happy Holidays, it’s the perfect time to explore custom artwork, collaborations, or shop favorites, all created to inspire, elevate, and make a statement.
